Over 1,800 gifts received by the prime minister were sold in a fortnight-long auction that began in January this year. The funds generated went towards the Namami Gange, a central government project to clean the Ganga. Wooden side table, pair of chopsticks, gold bangle, carpet, photo frame, phones, are some among the gifts that the PM has received and now will be up for auction.

Toshakhana is a word of Persian or Sanskrit origin that literally translates into "treasure-house". In India, a toshakhana is a place where princes store "gifts and emblems of honor that they received for their posterity, an archive of objects whose origin and receipt embodied his status and honor". Now, the Prime Minsiter also keeps his gifts in the Toshakhana.
