The video where a middle-aged woman was seen 'slut-shaming' six women in Gurgaon for wearing short dresses had gone viral on social media for the last two days. The woman in question, Soma Chakrabarty, has finally rendered an apology on her Facebook profile with a post where she said that her statements were 'harsh' and she was 'regressive' in her outlook.

The video posted on social media by Shivani Gupta, the girl who was publicly shamed for wearing short clothes, was followed by a huge deal of controversy, with people demanding an apology from the older woman by using #apologiseaunty — the hashtag which soon started trending on Twitter.

After thousands of people condemned her appalling views, the older woman finally issued an apology with a Facebook post on Thursday.

"I extend an unconditional apology to all the girls. In hindsight, I realise, I was harsh and incorrect in my statement. If any, I should have offered my opinion in private. I was concerned, however, I realise that I should have been protective and progressive in my outlook and not conservative and regressive. As a wife, sister and a mother and more importantly as a woman, I value every woman's dignity. Once again, I profusely apologise to all women whose sentiments have been hurt," her Facebook post reads.

The incident was said to have taken place at Nukkadwala Restaurant, on Sohna Road in Gurgaon where Shivani and her friends had gone to get some snacks. That's where the elderly woman came up to the girls and expressed her concern about one of them wearing a short dress. According to Shivani's social media posts, she addressed some men present at the restaurant and casually told them to rape the girls because she felt the girls deserved it for having the nerve to wear short dresses.

According to a report by the Times of India, Shivani has filed a complaint with the police against the woman for provoking some men to rape her. "While most people supported our views, I also received rape threats. I think around 10% of people feel whatever we did was incorrect," Shivani told TOI.
