The Cyberabad Police is asking IT and ITES firms to provide night transportation (after 8.30 pm) for its women employees. But WAIT, don't cheer yet. These cabs are to stop women from going 'to dinners, parties, meet friends' and instead go directly home. In a statement, the police has directed women to sign a declaration if they leave office without availing the office cabs and decide to go out 'to party'.
So basically, if a female IT employee wants to go out and meet some friends after a long day at the office, she has to sign a declaration informing her office that she's going out. And the police are saying that "she SHOULD" keep her family informed about her whereabouts. It's hostel all over again folks! Oh so what if you're above 18, an earning member of the society, an income tax paying citizen and this is a democracy AND you deserve to be safe because you're a living breathing human and nothing else. None of it matters if you're a woman. Seems, women have to keep signing registers whether they are 12, 22, 32 or 42.
In the statement, the Cyberabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar has said that IT and ITES managements have to provide night transportation for women employees working beyond 8.30 pm. The police also noted that, some women employees are leaving office without availing office cabs and going to meet friends, dinner, parties and sometimes not accessible on phone to family members. The police claimed that there were many worried parents who approached them with missing women complaints and so this is the way they are going to curb those cases.
In the circular, that is both in English and Telugu will be distributed among all employees. Sajjanar said, "All employees should keep their family members or friend or colleagues informed whenever they move out of office after office hours without availing office transport facilities. Sign a declaration if they are not availing the transport on any particular day that they have informed their family about their whereabouts."
So, if you're a woman and you don't avail the office cab and go missing. Always remember, it is YOUR fault.
