The CPI (M) Tamil Nadu state secretary condemned the Draft National Education Policy issued by the BJP run Central government. He said that Hindi imposition was unfair to Tamil students and will affect the diversity of the country. K Balakrishnan said that the CPI(M) will never support the imposition of any language.

"This imposition will only ruin the education of the poor and downtrodden," he said. Further, he condemned the BJP for not aiding the Tamil Nadu government in developing one of the oldest languages in the world. "If the trend continues regional languages will be destroyed," he said.

"The bilingual education system which is adopted in states across India is doing well, people can opt for Hindi, Tamil, Kannada or Malayalam as their language of choice. This has resulted in many students opting for Hindi and we have no opposition towards their choice. But the draft education policy makes it mandatory for all to comply with learning Hindi, which means that Tamil students and many other south Indian students will have to learn three languages to clear their board exams," he added.

Further speaking he said that if a class VI student fails to pass in Hindi, he will be held back, uphill his class V he has no knowledge or need for Hindi and out of the blue BJP government led by Narendra Modi is forcing these students to study Hindi. How will they clear their exams? Wouldn't this affect education overall?" he questioned.

He said that Tamil Nadu is facing an unprecedented water shortage, neither or elected representative or the BJP leader in TN have voiced any concern over this. The first priority of the BJP government should be to ensure the each and every home is supplied with water he added.
