The members of the Debating Society of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College have released a statement expressing solidarity with the protesting students of Jamia Millia Islamia, Aligarh Muslim University and Assam. The statement also conveys their disagreement about the NRC and the CAA.

The statement is in complete contradiction with the ABVP dominated Delhi University Students' Union's view, that supports the CAA. "We do not uphold the narrative in the statement released by the DUSU and believe it be unrepresentative of the morale of the university and its students. We would like to take this moment to congratulate the nation on the successful conduct of mass peaceful protests on the martyrdom anniversaries of Ram Prasad Bismil and Ashfaqulla Khan," reads the statement. It also condemns the internet and cellular network shutdown in various Indian states.

Sista Srinivas, the society's president says, "We weren't thinking about the possible risks while issuing the statement. We were only trying to work for the kind of change that you want to see in society." He says that similar statements were issued by various clubs and societies in many DU colleges. "We haven't been approached by the DUSU about the statement. We don't think they can take on these many clubs together," he says.
