Did the ABVP assault this Delhi University student for opposing CAB?
The student who hails from Bihar is also a member of the student political organisation AISA
A student of Delhi University was cornered and beaten up by a group of people on Friday, alleged student organisation AISA. The student, who hails from Bihar and is associated with the AISA, was known to have been vocal against the Citizenship Amendment Bill.
"They attempted to beat him up and called him an anti-national and Pakistani," said Madhurima Kundu, AISA DU Secretary. Reluctant to reveal his identity, Madhurima said that the incident occurred when the student had stepped out of his house. "This did not even happen during a protest. We suspect that the ABVP is behind this. The CAB has given saffron goons the right to call anyone an anti-national," says Madhurima. While the students have filed a complaint with the Malviya Nagar Police, Madhurima said that an FIR is yet to be registered.
Since the passing of the Citizenship Amendment Bill, campuses across the country have been witnessing student uprising. Students of Delhi University burned copies of the bill on Thursday. They are also planning a larger torch rally on campus. The students of Jamia Millia Islamia have called for a complete lockdown of the university, protesting the bill. The students also conducted a march to the parliament on Friday. This had turned violent when the Delhi police lathi-charged the protesting students.
