Tamil Nadu steamrolled the NIRF Rankings 2019, with 35 colleges from the state making it to the list of top 100 colleges in the country — essentially translating to one-third of the best colleges in India being in the state. Last year, 37 colleges were ranked in the top 100 colleges. While Presidency College, Chennai moved two ranks up in a year, securing the third position, Loyola College and Madras Christian College bagged the sixth and the thirteenth ranks respectively.

A few other prominent additions in the list include PSG College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore on the 17th position, PSGR Krishnammal College for Women, Coimbatore in the 22nd position and Scott Christian College, Nagercoil in the 30th position.

Delhi has the second most number of colleges in the top 100 list. 29 Colleges from the capital made it to the list. Delhi University's Miranda House and Hindu College bagged the first and the second ranks respectively. They were followed by St Stephen's College on the fourth  and Lady Shri Ram College for Women in the fifth positions.
