Students continue to stay away from their classes in the Kashmir valley, where people are protesting against scrapping of Article 370, besides bifurcation of the state into two Union Territories on August 5.
The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar reopened on Tuesday though the attendance of students was very less. About 30 students, mostly from outside, attended the institute on the first day, official sources said. However, the administration said students from outside the valley are also coming to join their classes.
The NIT was closed and students from outside the valley were directed to vacate their hotel room and leave for their respective homes as a precautionary measure a few days before the special status of the state was withdrawn. An adequate number of security forces have been deployed near the NIT at Hazratbal, Srinagar to prevent any untoward incident.
However, students of government and private educational institutions continue to stay from their institutions though the Board of School Education (BOSE) has announced date-sheet for 10th and 12th class examinations from later this month in the valley.
The teaching and other staff of colleges and other schools remained present in their educational institutions without students, who are staying away despite the resumption of postpaid mobile service in the valley from Monday noon.
Parents are still not ready to send their children to schools due to uneasy situation in the valley, where shops and business establishments are closed and traffic off the roads since August 5.
