High on alcohol, four engineering students run over by a train

In a shocking incident, four engineering students who were sitting on a railway track and consuming liquor were run over by a speeding train on the Irugoor-Sulur section near Rawathur village on Wednesday night. Another student escaped with minor injuries and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. The deceased have been identified as D Sadiq Raja (22) of Kodaikanal and Rajasekar (22) from Nilakkottai in Dindigul district, Karuppasamy (22) and Gowtham (22) from Rajapalayam. The injured student Vishvanesh (22) is from Pallavarayanpatti in Theni district. 

Though the accident happened around 11.45 pm, the Podanur railway police and Sulur police received information only at 1 am on Thursday. Police said that the youth were students of a private engineering college near Sulur.

Not so isolated
Exactly six days ago, a 17-year-old girl called Puja Yadav from UP's Auraiyya district was run over by a train. According to the locals and parents, the girl had been to attend the coaching classes and were not sure why it happened. While the investigation is on, her parents had said that Puja had not shown signs of being troubled or under depression.

In another incident, two days ago, Arif Shaikh was run over by a train when he tried to escape with a stolen phone. Chirag Gupta, a resident of Ghatkopar West was heading home after work. While he was fast asleep, his phone was stolen. He got down at the Sewri Station and registered a complaint with the local police. The police tried calling the number and a constable called Sonavne picked the phone. He mentioned that the phone was found in the pocket of Arif Shaikh.

In December 2018, Jorge Gomes Santos, a Portuguese national who was pursuing MTech in Aerospace Engineering was crushed under the Ajmer Agra Intercity Express at Idgah Railway station. He, along with his friends, was travelling to Agra Fort Station but they got down at the Idgah Station by mistake. After getting down from the train, Jorge and his friend realised that they have got down at the wrong stop. When the duo tried to board the moving train, Jorge came under the wheels and injured himself. Later, he died in a hospital.
