If teachers have not filled in all their details in the Education Management Information System (EMIS) they could lose out on a promotion. Teachers are required to fill in the required information on the portal to be eligible for online teacher transfer and promotional counselling.

The School Education Department secretary Pradeep Yadav conducted a meeting through video conference with Chief Educational Officers (CEOs), and District Educational Officers (DEOs) across the State, and directed them to ensure that the records were maintained properly.

Speaking to Express, Coimbatore DEO R Geetha said, "The department has already collected the district wise teachers' details. For the first time, it is planning to verify teacher details through the portal. While checking, if it founds details of a teacher missing or erroneous, that particular teacher will not be able to participate in the counselling, likely to take place next month."

A decision has been taken to conduct a meeting with school headmasters in the coming week, informed Geetha, adding that the headmasters would be instructed to check the teachers' details in the portal. "It will be the headmasters' responsibility to ensure that details of the teachers are properly uploaded. In case they commit any mistake, they have to take responsibility and face departmental action," she mentioned.

Welcoming the announcement, Tamil Nadu High School and Higher Secondary School Graduate Teachers Association district president T Arulanandham said, "Earlier, many government teachers lost their promotion due to mistake committed in the counselling process. Now as the counselling will be based on EMIS portal, we hope that mistakes will be avoided. However, the headmasters have to cross-check teacher's details in the portal."
