Kerala Students' Union(KSU), the student body of the Indian National Congress, ended its eight-day-old hunger strike in front of the secretariat on Monday. The strike was conducted for CBI inquiry into the happenings at the University college including the stabbing of a third-year political science student Akhil by SFI activists. Former unit president of SFI, Naseem and secretary Sivaranjith are in judicial custody following the incident.
KSU ended the strike as the Youth Congress, KSU protest march turned violent with the police resorting to lathi-charge and hurling tear gas shell at the protestors near the venue of the hunger strike. KSU leaders including state president KM Abhijith, Jashir Pallivel, Nabeel Kallambalam and Jobin C Joy were the leaders who were into a hunger strike and they were arrested and removed. The arrested leaders are admitted at Medical college hospital after preliminary treatment at Thiruvananthapuram General hospital.
Youth Congress state president Dean Kuriakose MP later told the media that the youth organisation is taking over the strike from the student body and said that a stringent of protest marches will be carried out across the state.
