Soon a majority of girl students in the city would be armed with pepper spray cans everywhere to ward off harassers, molesters and others. For the first time, as many as 200 pepper spray cans were distributed to college students at an event to increase awareness on women safety organised by the AIMIM at Golconda on Tuesday. This, however, leaves a question, is women's safety in the city has become so alarming that they need to carry pepper spray?

The event which was held in the backdrop of a rape incident at Azaan International School was attended by at least 1,200 students.

Those who attended the event encouraged the students to use pepper spray, but with caution.

Speaking on the occasion, MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi said, ''There are many evil people in this generation, who not only make their wives the victims of their lust but have now stooped so low that they have started targeting children."

SHE Team officials explained the use of Hawk-Eye Mobile App and encouraged the students to install it in their smartphones. They were taught the difference between good touch and bad touch. Two students from the local school in Golconda displayed self-defence techniques.

Speaking to Express, Inspector General of Police Swathi Lakra lauded the effort saying, "It is always better to be on the safeguard, alert and be prepared for any kind of untoward incident. Pepper spray helps in making the user feel secure," she added.
