Students go on a rampage after college bus crushes student to death

A case has been registered against the driver and the CCTV footage is being inspected as part of the ongoing investigation

Angered by the death of their classmate, around 30 students travelling in the same bus got down from the vehicle and went on a rampage on the road

An overspeeding bus of Sri Chaitanya Institutions crushed an Intermediate student to death in Kukatpally in Hyderabad. Regula Ramya (18), a student of Sri Chaitanya College in Kukatpally, was on her way to college was crossing the road to go to the college, when the bus hit her. The incident sparked protests from the students, who went on a rampage and damaged the college buses and ransacked the college premises and a bank as well.

According to the police, Ramya, the elder daughter of Paramesh and Chandrakala, was studying in first-year at the college in Balaji Nagar which comes under the jurisdiction of Kukatpally police station of Cyberabad. While her parents stay at Katedan, Ramya stays with her uncle in Jagathgirigutta.

On Monday, she took an RTC bus and got down at Kukatpally bus stop. She was crossing to the other side of the road towards the college. The over-speeding bus hit her when she crossing the road and crushed her to death on the spot. ACP B Surender Rao said that a case has been registered against the bus driver for causing death due to rash and negligent driving. "The accident occurred due to overspeeding and the negligence of the driver. We are also verifying the CCTV footage at the spot. Based on the evidence, the investigation will proceed," Rao said.

Angered by the death of their classmate, around 30 students travelling in the same bus got down from the vehicle and went on a rampage on the road, damaging the vehicle and also creating inconvenience to other users. They also damaged two more vehicles belonging to the college and broke the glass panes of the college building and a bank located in the floor below. Despite repeated attempts from police to control them, the students continued rampage for more than an hour. They were however dispersed later and the situation was brought under control.
