A government school at Angaragundi near Baikampady was damaged after containers stored next to the school building fell over it.

The incident came to light when the school opened on Monday morning. A release from the information department said a private agency was storing the containers received from New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) since the last few years.

The huge containers were arranged one above the other. Due to the incident, the walls of the school have developed wide cracks and the compound wall has fully collapsed.

Mangaluru North BEO Manjula who visited the spot took the private agency that had stored the containers, to task. She said the students would have suffered if they were in school when the containers slid. She said she has requested the police and other authorities to cancel the permit and remove the containers immediately.

The private agency representatives promised to fix the school building and compound. School headmistress Ravikala Shetty has lodged a complaint with Panamburu police.
