The District Collector of Madurai, S Natarajan, said that the district administration would distribute appreciation certificates to the school students if they identify the places that act as the source for breeding of mosquitoes that spreads dengue.

Natarajan, in the presence of the Corporation Commissioner Aneesh Sekhar, inaugurated the special awareness camp, at MGR Bus Stand at Mattuthavani, organised to prevent dengue and swine flu. During the camp, the Collector said that school and college students along with officials are creating awareness among the people to prevent the spread of dengue and swine flu with a door to door campaign. He said that apart from creating awareness, they are also identifying places which act as the source for breeding of mosquitoes that spreads dengue and are carrying out source reduction works.

Natarajan said that if the school students identify the places and inform the schools, then the district administration would distribute appreciation certificates to them. He added that as the rainy season has started, the people with symptoms of fever should go to the nearby primary health centres and government hospitals for treatment. He explained that separate wards have been created at the government hospitals in the districts for dengue and swine flu. He also noted that the private hospitals were also given instructions to inform the district administration about the people who are undergoing treatment for fever.

The Collector and the Commissioner visited the stalls which were set up to create awareness and also distributed awareness notices regarding dengue and swine flu prevention to the people. As a part of the special awareness camp, folk artists performed plays.
