Noted educator B Boregowda slams government over errors in class 1 textbooks in Mysuru

The educator said the government should overhaul the textbook system and introduce three textbooks instead of one for first standard Kannada

Noted educator and author of over 30 textbooks B Boregowda slammed the Education Department for making logical errors in recently released class 1 textbooks in Mysuru. Pointing out errors, the retired teacher said such errors will kill the interest of students to learn Kannada.

"Kids have camera-like eyes and at this age, they innocently record in their mind whatever they see. It is dangerous to teach them mistakes," said the 95-year-old teacher.

According to him, the textbooks are marred by logical mistakes that can confuse students. He slammed the authorities for disturbing intricacies in the language while neighbouring Tamil Nadu is promoting the brilliance of their mother tongue with pride.

He said he had approached the chief minister over mistakes in the textbooks and after which he was asked to contact the chief secretary.

The CS asked him to visit the Department of Education with his findings. But the department despite his multiple visits did not respond to his concerns, he said.

The educator said the government should overhaul the textbook system and introduce three textbooks instead of one for first standard Kannada.
