TN government adds two more districts to Villupuram to improve education quality
To improve quality of education in Villupuram district, two more educational districts -- Tirukoilur and Gingee -- have been formed.
Villupuram, one of the backward districts in Tamil Nadu, houses many government schools. However, in this year's public exam, students from the district put up a poor show both in the higher secondary exams and the SSLC. Though a few private school students achieved state-level marks, their government school counterparts were lagging behind. Officials blamed it on shortage of teachers and officials in government schools.
K Munusamy, chief education officer, said that new disticts were set up for the benefits of the administration and there is a plan to set up new educational district offices in the respective areas.
A few years back, Villupuram district was divided into three education districts, which are now split into five education districts. Tirukoilur and Gingee are added to Villupuram, Kallakuruchi and Tindivanam educational districts.
