Days after reports of a 10-year-old minor girl's abduction and rape inside a madrassa in Ghaziabad emerged and shocked the nation, a madrasa teacher (Maulvi) has been arrested in Hyderabad for allegedly sexually abusing six minor boys, all aged between 6 and 8 years.

The accused, 44-year-old Rehman Ansari, a native of Bihar, was arrested following a complaint from parents of one of the boys. A case was registered under Section 377(unnatural sex), 506 (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code and Section 5 & 6 of POCSO Act. The accused was produced before a local court which remanded him to judicial custody. All the 6 children have been sent for medical examination and later after for counselling.

Ansari, who teaches English and is also the in-charge of the Jamia Uloom-ul- Huda Madarsa at Zeba Baugh in Asif Nagar limits. There are 25 students enrolled in the madrasa of which only five are locals. Twenty other students are natives of Bihar and have been at the madrasa and pursuing education.

The accused joined the madrasa a year ago. He has completed B.Ed and is pursuing PG in education.

Inspector P Venkateswarlu said the parents have lodged a complaint with police alleging that Ansari has been sexually assaulting minor students aged between six and eight years for the past few months.

"Before lodging a complaint, the parents who noticed a change in the behaviour of their wards, went to the madrasa to inquire about the incident. However, the teacher refuted such allegations stating that some persons were deliberately spreading rumours. The incident came to light recently when some of the students were reluctant to attend classes. This raised suspicion among the parents who on inquiry found that the teacher was sexually abusing the students,'' the inspector said.

"We will file a petition before the court seeking police custody of the accused for questioning,'' the inspector said.
