JNU students chased down, brutally beaten, molested by police

Students have been uploading videos and pictures on social media showing the brutality of the Delhi police

Several students were then arrested by the police

Several JNU students were beaten, molested and lathi-charged by the Delhi Police while they were on a peaceful protest March on Friday. Over the months, student shave been protesting against various issues - compulsory attendance, demanding implementation of SC/ST reservation and most recently against professor Atul Johri who has been accused of sexually harassing several students from his department.

After Johri was given a bail within two hours of his arrest of sexual harassment charges, the students had decided to take out a March to the Parliament. Around 3 pm in the afternoon, around 3000 students and supporters gathered for the March. However, around six in the evening, the police began to lathi-charge the students and soon brought out water cannons to stop the students from continuing their March.

Despite it being a peaceful March, the police began to beat up the students and there were complaints of male constables misbehaving with women students and molesting them. Various media persons on the scene also claimed to have been molested by the police.Journalists claimed their phones had been snatched from them as well.

Several students were then arrested by the police. Students began to upload pictures and videos of the brutality of the police. Later in the evening, students were taken for medical examination and were being treated for their wounds.
