The fortnight long state-wide awareness campaign against child sexual abuse in Odisha came to an end here today. The campaign was launched on May 28 to create awareness among the people as the state witnessed a number of incidents of minor rape cases.

The police felt that only awareness could prevent the incidents as above 90 percent of the accused persons in the minor rape cases were known to the victims or their families. The vans titled 'Paree Pain Katha Tiye' (A word for little angel) led by the Odisha Police in collaboration with UNICEF, had started its journey from the state capital on May 28.

The 15 Paree Express covered all the 30 districts of the state, said Director General of Police, R P Sharma at the valedictory function held here. People from all regions and communities whole heartedly participated in the programme, the DGP said.

Though the intensive two weeks campaign comes to end today, the mission will continue in different forms, he said adding that the police has chalked out a programme for this purpose which will be implemented in the coming days.

Women and Child Development Minister Prafulla Samal, Tourism minister Ashok Panda, Finance Minister S B Behera and representatives of UNICEF attended the function.
