A PhD student from the Delhi School of Economics was allegedly attacked by a couple of phone snatchers with knives on December 2. The student, Sandipan, was stabbed multiple times and is now admitted at Hindu Rao Hospital.
This incident took place on the Naala Bridge at Patel Chest, a residential area where many DU students reside and is a lively point of interaction for many of them. Many students also stay late into the night in the area. Responding to the attack, DU students said in a statement that this was not the first time that such an incident was taking place and that multiple such cases have been reported by in recent times.
In the statement, the students said that they had submitted the bike number to the police but no action had been taken yet. "DU administration and the Delhi Police must ensure the safety of students around the campus and around every college of DU," they said. The students have also organised a candlelight march from the Delhi School of Economics on Wednesday.
