Bengaluru fake marks cards scam: Rajiv Gandhi Univ of Health Sciences officials to verify 500 GB data

Bethal College of Nursing has been accused of forging the signature of Dr MK Ramesh, in-charge Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences to issue the mark cards

A month after Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) filed a criminal case against Bethal College of Nursing for issuing fake marks cards, the university is now struggling to verify 500 GB data stored in the computer seized during the inspection of the college.

The computer consists of 500 GB data which is yet to be verified by the university. "As all the team members are medical professionals, we have to hire IT professionals. We have recently hired three IT consultants to verify the data," said a senior official.

The officials explained that the team sent by the university was forced to carry the computer instead of copying the files because of a power cut during the inspection. However, after going through the case, the university is smelling a big 'fake nursing admissions and marks card' racket. The committee, constituted by the university, is expected to submit the report by the end of this week.

Interestingly, the college had forged the signature of Dr MK Ramesh, in-charge Vice-Chancellor of RGUHS, in one of the documents. "The interesting part is, they issued marks mentioning the year 2013, and forged my signature. But I was not even a registrar evaluation at that time," said Ramesh. The university has also decided to give a strong message to all those who are running nursing colleges affiliated to RGUHS by taking severe action against Bethal after the submission of the report.

How did it come to light?

An Iranian-based student had joined a Physiotherapy course at Hosmat nursing institute run by Bethal college. She had filed a complaint with the Iranian Embassy and it was forwarded to the principal secretary of the medical education department. The student alleged that her results were not announced despite appearing for theory and practical exams. When the university verified the complaint, it was shocked to get her theory papers but, found no documents of her practicals. There was no hall ticket either.

Govt seeks report

RGUHS is stunned with fake marks cards. This was discovered when job providers send marks cards for verification. According to varsity officials, it is restricted to nursing courses. "So far, we have identified fake marks cards related to nursing courses and in the last six months, over 10 such cases have been found," said Dr MK Ramesh, in-charge VC. In Bethal Nursing college case, the Governor and Chancellor of the universities, Vajubhai Vala, sought a report from the university. He sought action of the report and also a status report of the case.
