Parents and students need to equio themselves with information regarding the various opportunities available

Students of classes X, XI, XII from across Madurai were on Saturday educated on various career opportunities that are more than often missed due to lack of awareness, in a career guidance programme conducted by the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) Madurai Divisional office.

Elaborating on various career opportunities, D Nedunchezian, Social entrepreneur, Technocrats India College Finder, Chennai said limited awareness coupled with common practises often leads to students making unhappy choices.

Nedunchezian added that after 10+2, there were more than 80+ entrance examinations conducted by reputed institutions across the country.

In today's world, both students and parents have limited awareness on  new educational opportunities available. A majority of students prefer to join Medicine, Engineering, Law and Arts and Science colleges only. Due to lack of vital information, many deserving students often end up making the wrong choices

Of these, 70 entrance examinations will not take into consideration the marks obtained in board exams. As a result, students actually have more than 70+ alternative opportunities available, he added.

He also explained the courses available in Engineering, Medicine, Architecture, Design, Fashion, Agriculture, Veterinary Studies, Law, Commerce, Social Sciences, Teaching, Music and Dances, research and management programme, and other non-conventional courses and told the students on how to track these courses.
