Are you happy with your classroom environment or are there changes you would appreciate in the current education system? Students from Yadava College of Arts and Science's  Zoology department tell Express about the changes they would appreciate in the classroom

A class room should be live and active. We prefer interactive sessions and discussions rather than professors taking theoretical classes for hours, without a break. Activity-oriented learning should not end in schools; it should enter the doors of colleges as well

The hero of a classroom is its teacher. According to me, a teacher is in perfect control when he or she is friendly with the students. A teacher needs to be open enough to understand our minds and needs

The transition from Tamil medium to English is difficult for some students. The pace with which we pick up things is not the same as a student who is already well-versed in the language. A teacher who manages to break this language barrier and makes us understand concepts is a real star

Any class that is not monotonous is interesting. I prefer visual learning over other methods of learning. Powerpoint presentations, video lessons and other visual aids can go a long way in helping us understand the basics right

While the external semester examinations we undertake are mostly theoretical, internals can concentrate on things that are more practical. May be, we can be marked for our presentation skills, communication skills and overall classroom participation

Our views and opinions should be considered whenever we make a suggestion to the college. An ideal classroom is one that makes us happy. We neither want to be treated like school students nor like PhD students. Giving us the right amount of exposure and freedom is crucial

The approach of a teacher while taking lessons is an important aspect. They need to be interesting and break the stereotype of using books to read through lessons. They should address the doubts we raise in a confident manner rather than neglecting it
-Nethaji

In the beginning of a year, every student and teacher invests time in planning something interesting for a semester. As days pass by, we end up executing only half of the plans due to lack of time. Most of the time is spent in getting the class ready for theoretical examinations

Academics alone will not groom us. Students have to be encouraged to take part in extra-curricular activities. We will have to be given chances to exhibit our talents not just in intercollegiates, but also inside our own classrooms. Allocate small intervals in a day to indulge in fun activities as a class
-Aarthi

We spend close to 7 hours in college every day. While I don’t deny the fact that a bulk amount of the time has to be spent towards lectures and classes, I also put forward to the teachers that they need to understand a student’s mindset. If I get a chance to stand up for a social cause or participate in a cultural event, I need my teacher’s support to shine there
