It is the classic case of ‘walking in their shoes’ for S N G Karthik when it comes to writing screenplays for independent Telugu short films. "I do my best to relate to the character and I think about how I would react if I was in that situation," says the 23-year-old. Sounds simple enough and sometimes, simple formulas are the best, aren’t they?
Karthik is currently working on the scripts for five short films at the moment, one of which is Mission A. He has also directed three short films — Kalavaramaye Madilo, Malli Rava and Kale Aitey Ee Nijam but he wants to be known as a screenplay and dialogue writer. "I don't feel completely satisfied with my directorial work because I feel, somewhere, I paid less attention to the two aspects I like the most," says Karthik. When we ask him the reason, he pauses for a few seconds and says, "I have no clue. All I know is my real passion is writing."
As off now I have no big achievement I can boast of. I am young and I want to achieve big things
S N G Karthik, short filmmaker
Karthik was working with Amazon before he quit in January of this year and naturally, his parents pester him to get a job. "They are right, but I need one chance to prove myself," he says ardently. There have been a few slips between the cup and the lip when it comes to writing dialogues for feature films (one of his movies was shelved at the last minute), but Karthik has only remained hopeful. "My friends and brothers have already spoken about how this industry is, so I was prepared for this. I want to see where I go," he concludes.
