Left sweeps the Right away at the JNU polls, Geeta Kumari is new president
The election counting concluded on Saturday night and the winners have been announced; ABVP comes second
The United Life Alliance had a sweeping victory in the Jawaharlal Nehru University's polls leaving the ABVP far behind in all of their four most crucial posts.
The All India Student Association, Democratic Federation of India and the Student Federation of India joined together to fight the right wing ABVP in the elections for the new academic year.
Geeta Kumari from the AISA is JNU's new President, she won a whopping 1056 votes, Nidhi Thripathi of the ABVP came second with 1042 votes and the Birse Ambedkar Phule Student Association's Shabana Ali came third.
Simone Zoya Khan (AISA) won 1876 votes and will go on to become the Unions's Vice President, Duggirala Srikrisha (SFI) won the highest number of votes- 2086 and will be the Union's General Secretary. Shubhanshu Singh (DFI) has been elected to the post of the Joint Secretary after winning with 1755 votes.

While the runner's up to all the posts, were ABVP candidates, the BAPSA candidates managed to take the third place.
After the elections on Friday, counting of the votes began on Saturday and the final results were announced at 12.10 am.
Besides the four student union posts, all the councils for the various schools within JNU also saw a clean sweep by the Left parties.
