The entertainment company Culture Machine just announced that it would give women employees the first day off of their periods. We asked a couple of women what they would do if they got the day off!

Women on social media are already excited about this new initiative and our praying their companies get inspired to do the same. We spoke to a few women to get their reactions.

Alekhya T Kilambi, 25, PhD student

"In case I felt like I could manage or if there's some very important work to do then I would go. But I would definitely appreciate the option because most months I'm completely incapacitated and non-functional and considering the number of PCOD cases on the rise, it would be a real benefit to women. Even though it might not have any direct effect on mental abilities, it makes you slow, lethargic, clumsy and forgetful because of the maddening pain."

Aswathi Sharath, 24, Research Assistant

"If I got a day off I would clean my house or I would run a marathon! Well, I don't get much pain so I'd rather just go to work that day. But I do a lot of my friends suffer a lot, so it would still be great if they had the option of staying home."

Jasmine Jerald, 23, MBA student

"I would love to have the day off, I get terrible cramps. I know it seems unfair but I would rather take time off and work from home and do my work more efficiently than sit t work and suffer in silence and do some crappy work. Or I would definitely ask if I can make up by working on the weekend or take the period day off as my sick leave of the month. I suffer so much that I've fainted on many occasions, many women suffer from endometriosis too, this could help them so much."

Mekha Vimal, 25, PhD student

"I'll claim the leave on a Monday or Friday and get a long weekend! (laughs). But seriously, this would help a lot of women I know. In IIT, where I work you need a medical certificate for every leave that you take. Once I heard that someone was asked once to show their sanitary napkin as proof. I'm unsure if this is true but I feel it could be."

Anushka Masilamani, 17, student

"Well, if I had the first day off it would be great because I would not have to stress about anything. I'll be able to take it easy and relax. I'd take a 12-hour nap or probably read something to relax. Or I would do other things like art to distract myself because it really helps to stay distracted during the pain.

Saima Baig, 24, MBA student

"I would take the holiday! Earlier, when I was younger, I would be fine. But for two years now, it's (period pain) been getting worse and I end up missing classes or work because of it. If college gives an off, I'd take it because anyway I miss classes."
