The Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) silence on when it will announce the class 12 results has made students anxious.

It was speculated that results would be announced on Wednesday, but with the Delhi High Court withholding the Board from trashing its marks moderation policy, uncertainty looms large over the issue and along with it, a possibility of further delay in declaration of the results.
This has led to a feeling of distress among the students about their future.

“As if the confusion over the marks moderation or grace marks wasn’t enough, CBSE is now not even issuing a notification about the announcement of results. I am worried that if results get further delayed, it could impact my college admission,” said Som J, a student of Meridian School.

Students who are undecided on what to do after school are particularly worried about their future academic prospects. Chayya Choudhary from Kendra Vidyalaya feels that class 12 marks are vital for her since she is still weighing her options to choose her career path. “I have given a few entrance exams which give weightage to board marks too. So unless CBSE declares the results I won’t know how I have fared in these entrances,” she rued. With state board results already released, students feel delay in CBSE results could hamper their undergraduate admission prospects.

The board exams which usually commence from March 1, were delayed this year due to the Assembly Elections in five states. The class 12th board exams were conducted from March 9 to April 29. Of as many as10,98,981 students who appeared for the exam, 6,38,865 were boys and 4,60,026 girls. While last year the class 12 results were announced on May 21, lack of clarity over the result this year is putting student under a lot of pressure, in particular those who plan to study abroad.

“To be able to complete formalities in the foreign universities I have applied to, I need to give my final grades. Forget the grades, no one even know when the results will be announced. This suspense is making me really nervous,”said Swathi A, a student from Glendale Academy. She added that a few relatives have even called her up to enquire about her results.

Vasudha Rani, principal of Panineeya Mahavidyalaya, Dilsukhnagar, advised students to have patience and wait for results without panicking. “Let's not forget the exam also started late this year. Even if colleges have begun the admission process, they will surely extend the window for CBSE students. I don’t think CBSE students will at a disadvantage due to delay in the results,” she said and added that she is confident that its only a matter of days when the results will be announced.
