With Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja's legal notice to singer S P Balasubrahmanyam leaving the music world reeling, we take a look at why it would be a downright shame for generations to come if SPB is not allowed to perform these songs on stage again. That's right. We said it out loud. Whoever pays royalties or not, the truth is a whole generation of 80's and 90's kids only have their parents' word for it that these songs are golddust. So just in case you're wondering what's at stake, go ahead, scroll down and listen up. This is why we don't ever want SPB to stop singing Raja Sir's songs.

Just in case you've been living under a rock and suddenly find the world obsessing with copyrights, US Concerts royalty, here's a quick recall: S P Balasubrahmanyam posted on his social media account recently that Ilaiyaraaja’s attorney had sent a legal notice to him, and other singers on his tour, along with concert organisers and venue managers, stating that they cannot perform compositions of Ilaiyaraaja without his prior permission, if so, it is equivalent to breaking the copyright law and have to pay huge financial penalties and also face legal action. SPB cried foul and went ahead with the performance. We're still waiting to see if the Isaignani's legal eagles will follow through.

Just in case he gets shackled, here are some of the incredible hits we will miss SPB perform.

PS, If you're an 80's and 90's kid, this is what your folks headbanged to:

Ilamai Enum PoongatruPagalil Oru Iravu (1979 )

Who can forget this evergreen song with Kannadasan's words in SPB's voice?

Mannil Indha Kaadhal, Keladi Kanmani (1990)

Remember that song where SPB sang one entire verse holding his breath? He won a number of awards for it too! Also, he's one of the main leads in the movie.

Nalam Vazha Ennalum En Vazhthukal, Marupadiyum (1993)

Oh, how can we forget this song as Arvind Swamy croons this number to cheer up his poor friend on her birthday!

Mandram Vantha, Mouna Ragam (1986)

This one song can bring back memories of your loved one instantly. It will, at the very least, make you want to appreciate how far Mani Ratnam has drifted in 30 years.

Madai Thiranthu, Nizhalgal (1980)

That good ol' rock 'n' roll song from the eighties? That's this one! And hey we even have a remix of this hit song with Yogi B in it!

Also, the legal notice prevents all the troupes and bands from performing Ilaiyaraaja's songs without his permission which means no more amazing covers by these bands

Thaikkudam Bridge

Raag the Band
