We have heard of landings on the Moon and Mars, but on this day in the year 2005, NASA, European Space Agency (ESA) and Italian Space Agency (ISA) celebrated one of the most remarkable achievements in astronomy till date. The Huygens Probe became the first of its kind to land on a surface outside our solar system — directly on Saturn's largest moon, Titan. This mission was designed to conduct a deep study of the surface of Titan, including the clouds and the atmosphere. But alas, after the probe managed to survive the fatal two hours 27-minute descent to touch down, it remained in contact with Cassini (the spacecraft it was a part of) for about 90 minutes before going radio silent. Yet, it was a huge leap for mankind. The information relayed back to Earth is still being studied.
