A UV steriliser that can kill 99.9% of the germs on your tech devices in 5 minutes flat? To cater to the need of disinfecting daily use accessories, DailyObjects, the design-led lifestyle brand that makes personal accessories like customised phone cases, has launched India's first portable multifunctional UV steriliser which will disinfect smartphones, tech-gadgets and personal accessories.

According to multiple studies, germs and bacteria usually live on surfaces that are all around us. Therefore, wiping down the tech gadgets and accessories with an alcohol-based sanitiser is not an effective solution to kill the germs. In addition, the liquid-based sprays can accelerate wear and tear of the oil-repellent coating of the display. Only disinfecting can destroy 99.9 per cent of all viruses that accumulate on the surface of the products. "The phone is something we carry outside with us every time, this is actually the most exposed item. So, we thought such a product is the need of the hour. With this, you can also sterilise your keychains, make-up accessories, earphones, masks, rings, etc," says Pankaj Garg, CEO and Founder, DailyObjects.

He explains to us that while everyone is taking necessary precautionary measures against the COVID-19 pandemic, self-quarantining, washing hands repeatedly — keeping the surroundings clean has also become equally important. The product does not use any additional chemicals or cause any harm to the accessories and gadgets, thus making it one of the safest ways to disinfect. “Smartphones accumulate seven times more bacteria than a toilet seat. The rings people wear everyday carry 1,70,000 bacteria even after regular washing. The personal accessories we carry have almost ten times the bacterial load than shopping carts and doorknobs. And all of these can potentially harm us a lot more than we can imagine. So, this is a way to keep ourselves safe all-round,” he adds.

How does this portable steriliser work? The multi-functional steriliser uses UVC technology to disinfect the items quickly, in a matter of five minutes. "It has nine UVC bulbs attached inside the box's mechanism. You can just place the items into it and close the lid. There's a button that you can switch on, it will take five minutes to sterilise the contents and it will automatically switch off," says Pankaj. UV sterilisation is one of the most common methods to sterilise hospital rooms and medical instruments, UVC light is known to break apart germ DNA making it impossible for it to function or reproduce. The product uses the same technology to disinfect.

The device also comes with wireless charging and uses a 15W battery. In order to charge your earphones or phone through it, you can put the phone on top of the box. Pankaj says they have already sold a thousand pieces and are getting bulk orders from distributors and corporates. "Due to the limited supply of raw materials and costs getting higher, we priced it at this rate right now," he says, adding that they are also coming up with larger sizes of the same product to fit in heavier products. It is priced at Rs 4800 currently and is available online at DailyObjects.com.

DailyObjects is a design-led lifestyle brand that makes personal accessories like smartphone cases, Apple Watch bands and universal smartwatch bands, Air-pod case covers, crossbody bags, wallets, bags, backpacks, stationery and more. "We believe that in a society where everyone carries identical or incredibly similar products, DailyObjects aspires to give everyone an avenue of personal expression, with products that make a unique statement about who you are," concludes Pankaj.
