Zoom and Google Meet are the new hangout zones, conference rooms and an integral part of our post-COVID life. While the crisis has confined most of us at home, the video chat softwares are helping us keep up with our work and social life. But the apps often encounter issues in zones with low connectivity and during the crisis, even the metro cities are suffering from the same problem. Amlan Das Karmakar, Co-Founder of Bengal Web Solution, developed a video conferencing software that is easy to use, light and super cheap. And the most interesting part — it sends your feed directly to the participants and does not route it through its server. This increases your safety, said Amlan.

BifrostX lets you add unlimited participants to the chat room and lets you share videos, files, photos and presentations seamlessly. "Often the video conferencing apps will have glitches while sharing the screen. It takes time to share the screen or puts the presentation as just a small window in the corner. BifrostX simply replaces your video feed with the screen video. You can also share any type of packages like apk files, exe file and more. If you are sharing a YouTube link, it does not take the user to a different page but plays the video as an overlay," said Amlan, a self-taught coder. A graduate in English, Amlan took to coding after school and was fascinated by it. "I come from Bishnupur, a Tier II city in West Bengal. Growing up I did not have a computer. I first saw a computer in Class 11 and there was no looking back," said the developer.

The application is based on WebRTC (Web Real-Time Communication) technology, a form of modern technology which allows multiple devices to communicate with each other without the presence of any server to process that data. With high-end security, the application is available at just Rs 200 per month. "Bifrostx is absolutely secure as it is using the WebRTC system which allows only the attendees to communicate with each other and restricts the entry of any forced third party. This system also secures all the data transfers made on a single call," said Prasanta Sarkar, Director and Co-Founder of Bengal Web Solution. "I am always eager to keep up with the new changes in the digital world. The COVID-19 situation made it difficult for people to stay connected with one another, especially professionally. Keeping in mind the increasing number of cyber-crime linked via third-party video conferencing apps, I decided to create a software which every common person could afford without compromising security. BifrostX opens up the world of video calling, data sharing and other services at affordable rates,” said Amlan.

Baisakhi Bhattacharya, Co-founder and Digital Marketing Head added that the lockdown has made education for the younger generation a challenge and hence online classes are their only scope and BifrostX is the best choice for them as it is affordable and easy to access, "We have also created special packages for non-profit organisations.” The programme does not require a separate app and can be used in any web browser. But Amlan is trying to create an app as well. "I'll be upgrading the UX as well as the backend of the platform on a regular basis to provide an improved experience with each release. And yeah, the app will definitely come — it's just a matter of time," Amlan added.
