School teachers in Chennai will now be awarded for their kindness. Instituted in the memory of Late Mrs Judith Pinto, a teacher at Don Bosco School, Egmore, on August 27, the Judith Pinto Memorial Kindest Teacher Award will be bestowed on a teacher on a rotational basis for a different school every year in Chennai.

Late Mrs Pinto taught at the school for over three decades. Till date, her ex-students and colleagues remember her with the fondness and vouch for her kindness, which set her apart from everyone else. Her son, lawyer and columnist Sanjay Pinto, said on the occassion, "With corporal punishment so rampant in the world today, our family thought it fit to celebrate her life and contribution with an annual award." Judith is believed to have never used corporal punishment on her students.

The award will be bestowed at Don Bosco School in its first academic year 2020-2021. There's a cash prize along with a trophy and citation that will be presented at the school's Annual Day. The selection will be on the basis of anecdotal feedback from students and finally decided by the school management.
