Do you remember that crush of yours from school? Probably not but I'm sure you can remember how they made you feel, all tingly and mushy. That's exactly how Naa Kanulakey, Modumudi Sruthiranjani's first original composition which she has also written the lyrics for, will make you feel. She released it on July 31 on YouTube and it has already amassed over 30,000 views.

She wants to work with music composers Harris Jayaraj, D Imman and AR Rahman

The 26-year-old, who started her playback singing journey in the Telugu industry with the title track of the Anushka Shetty-starrer Bhaagamathie, was just itching to write and compose her own song and during the lockdown, she finally did. "I was in Vijayawada, my hometown, and I really wanted to feature in the video of the song as well. But the whole team was back in Hyderabad. Yet they were able to pull it off," says the crooner. Directed by Raghuram Sreepada, who has worked as an assistant director for a couple of Telugu movies, the over three-minute-long video features popular social media personalities Ravi Teja Mahadasyam and Meghalekha K. "I wanted the song to be breezy and that's how it is," shares the singer who has performed at over 250 concerts till date and gave her first performance when she was just four!

Born to parents who are trained in Carnatic music and who, in turn, have been training her since the age of 8, Sruthi also developed an ear for Western music. With both influences in her heart, she composed the music for Naa Kanulakey and took about a week to hammer out the draft. "I have many friends who are lyricists but I wanted this to be completely my own," she says earnestly. "Music and singing is everything to me. Now, I am trying to learn instruments as well, like the keyboard, guitar and the ukulele," adds the youngster who pursued Biotechnology from KL University. The Vijayawada-born singer is also known for singing Hey Nenila from the movie Mr Majnu. She has many more exciting projects coming up which she chooses to remain tight-lipped about for now.

Also, any story about Sruthi would be incomplete without mentioning how crazy she is about Mahesh Babu. We could hear the blush in her voice when we asked her about the Telugu superstar. "Leading up to his birthday on August 9, I put up nine videos on Instagram and sang his songs too," she says, sounding thrilled. She adds, "I also had the chance to meet him when he was shooting for Bharat Ane Nenu and I was so awestruck, I couldn't utter a word."

What Sruthi is listening to:
- Maguva Maguva from the movie Vakeel Saab
Good In Goodbye by Madison Beer
Heaven by Julia Michaels
- Enthavo by Job Kurian
- Manavyalakincharadate by Agam
