Imagine you are a nine-year-old who is about to go on stage and perform a ballet piece that has been choreographed by you. How would you feel? Nervous wouldn't even begin to describe the feeling, we are sure. In November 2018, Sannidhi Verma found herself in the same situation. She had enrolled for a workshop at The School of Russian Classical Ballet in New Delhi and had to perform her own choreographed piece onstage during their Mosaic of Dance event and all she felt was a cool confidence.

And why wouldn't she be? She has been learning the ballet in the US since she was a little more than three years old. When the family shifted to Hyderabad in July 2016, her mother Sudeshna Samanta was running from pillar to post to ensure that her daughter continues to receive quality ballet training. "The ballet scene here is still not as evolved as in New Delhi and Mumbai and we really want to give her the best," she says. Which is why she takes her talented daughter to different workshops in India as much as she can. And that's how she came to choreograph her own piece for Mosaic of Dance. "I hear the music again and again and when I do so, steps start coming to my mind and I just fit them in the music," says the shy ballerina who is a class V student of Phoenix Greens School Of Learning, Hyderabad.

She learns at Steps Dance Studio in Hyderabad and currently, she is on a one-month break

Sannidhi practices every day, even while doing chores like washing, her mother often notices her daughter's hands going up and down, just like that of a ballerina. "I love how graceful and soft ballet is," Sannidhi exclaims and informs that she is also learning Kathak from Aarti Shankar and performs a fusion of both the dance forms, for which, she has won prizes as well. Turns out this dancer is also a poet and her poetry was also selected for publication in an anthology by StoryMirror. With so many varied interests, what does she want to be when she grows up, we wonder. "People say she can't become a dancer in India, she should become an engineer or a doctor instead. But maybe she will go on to break taboos, who knows? We must all wait and watch," says the doting mother.

The two songs Sannidhi loves performing on:
- O Hansini (Instrumental): This instrumental version of the hit song sung by Kishore Kumar is perfect for ballet
- Paquita Variation 7 Music: Is another opera-esque piece that the young girl loves dancing to
