Five years ago, the Ice Bucket challenge was the rage — everyone was downing a freezing bucket of water on themselves. This time around, the new bucket challenge is asking you if you can survive on just that one bucket for an entire day.

Hyderabadis, are you ready to survive on just a bucket of water as a commitment to water conservation? A new bucket challenge  — One Bucket — is gaining steam in the city. The challenge is to, just for a day, on Sunday, July 21, make use of only one bucket of water through the day for all needs. Amid severe water crisis in mainly South Indian states, the 'One Bucket Challenge' is going viral on social networking sites after famous personalities and Tollywood celebrities began sharing it on social media platforms.

The challenge is to use just one bucket throughout the day on July 21. A picture on Twitter that describes what the challenge is, notes, that the biggest illusion we have is that there is no water scarcity as water comes from our taps, however, the groundwater across the city is deteriorating sharply.

The caption reads, "The government needs to enact a strict bore-well policy. An urgent water policy. But we should also help. This is our future." The picture caption also explains that the idea is to provide a feeling of how half of our country already lives, fighting for every single drop of water and that every single drop counts.

Famous actor Samantha Akkineni also joined the challenge on Friday urging her fans, followers and mostly the people of Hyderabad to use only one bucket of water for the whole day including bathing, drinking and for all other purposes.

From celebrities to celebrity fans, several tweets and comments poured appreciating and accepting the challenge. A tweet from actor Nag Ashwin, read, "Hyderabad is running out of water. We take water for granted. This July 21st take the #one _bucket_challenge let's help the government fights this crisis. The less we use, the more we save."
