For candidates who have received a seat, the next decision is important: Freeze or Float. MCC's 2026 counselling scheme has changed how candidates complete admission and document verification, so it's important to understand the implications before submitting willingness.

NEET UG Round 1 Final Allotment 2026 : Freeze vs Float -What is the difference?

The dates to complete the seat acceptance process are August 25 to 31.

A candidate should select Freeze if they are satisfied with the Round 1 seat and do not want to participate in the next round for upgradation. Such candidates have to contact the nodal officer and physically report to the allotted institute for document verification. Failure to report within the stipulated period can lead to cancellation of the seat.

Candidates who want to retain their Round 1 seat but also seek an upgrade in the next round can choose Float. In this case, the willingness for upgradation is submitted online and candidates do not have to physically visit the allotted college at this stage. The institute verifies their documents online.

One point candidates should not miss: willingness can be submitted only once and cannot be modified after submission. Therefore, MCC advises candidates to read the instructions carefully before making the selection.

Documents are mandatory for both Freeze and Float

Whether a candidate chooses Freeze or Float, clear scanned copies of the required documents must be uploaded on the MCC portal. The counselling scheme describes this as a one-time document upload applicable across rounds.

The Candidate User Guide specifies that documents must be uploaded in PDF format, without password protection, with each file between 20 KB and 500 KB. Candidates should ensure that scans are clear and readable. If the institute raises a discrepancy, the candidate must re-upload the corrected document within the prescribed timeframe.

NEET UG Round 1 allotment: Dos and Don'ts

Dos:

  • Download and carefully check the provisional/final allotment details.

  • Verify the institute, course, rank, category and quota mentioned in the allotment letter.

  • Submit Freeze/Float willingness only after understanding its consequences.

  • Upload clear copies of all required documents.

  • Contact the allotted institute's nodal officer if clarification is required.

  • Keep checking the MCC website for schedules, notices and subsequent allotment updates.

Don't:

  • Do not choose Freeze or Float casually; the willingness submission cannot be changed.

  • Do not upload blurred, incomplete or incorrect certificates.

  • Do not miss the reporting or document-verification deadline.

  • Do not assume that Float means the candidate can simply ignore the Round 1 allotment.

  • Do not surrender a seat without understanding the applicable resignation rules.

For candidates considering withdrawal, the rules differ depending on the willingness selected. A Freeze candidate has to visit the allotted institute physically for withdrawal, while a Float candidate can use the online withdrawal facility in Rounds 1 and 2. There is no online withdrawal option in Round 3.

The MCC scheme also makes clear that upgradation is available up to Round 3, while candidates cannot resign from a Round 3 allotted seat.
