We are all guilty of window shopping online on websites like Shein and Club Factory, what if we were to introduce you to another website that you could add to your list? Behold, Penguin Kart. What is unique about it, you ask? Everything! Carefully curated by Anurag Reddy and Co, this e-commerce website offers products that you never knew you needed — a Bluetooth speaker bulb, baby safety nose cleaner, 6D magnetic eyelashes and so much more. "I scoured the internet for products that are unique and have a utility value which serves a purpose," says Anurag, a Hyderabadi lad who is currently pursuing his BTech in CEC.
Penguin Kart was pretty much been a one-man-show in the beginning. Anurag, who developed the website, the business plan and took care of customer care on his own, got in touch with US-based Sebastian Gomez, who also had a portal of his own and had cracked the mantra for making it big. "I eventually did not think this would work out, but it magically did," he shares. The 21-year-old's business took off from there. Literally! Because today, their revenue goes up to `40 lakh per quarter. Penguin Kart is incubated at the incubation centre of Lovely Professional University, where Anurag is pursuing his studies. "After my studies, I want to take a year off to completely focus on Penguin Kart and probably after that, I will pursue my master's in the US," he reveals.
Clearly, the portal's USP is their unique products. Though Anurag prefers to remain tight-lipped about how exactly they find these products, he does share that they use everything from Google Trends, Amazon Bestsellers to advanced tools which help them understand which products are having a good run on Facebook and Instagram while his Chinese dealers take care of the shipment. "We send them a picture of what we found on the internet and they procure it for us," he says. All this aside, what are the challenges that Anurag faces right now? "Honestly, it's balancing my workload and my academics. Though the university helps me manage both, it tends to get difficult sometimes," says the alumnus of Little Flower Junior College, Hyderabad.
