In order to spread awareness about the dire need to plant trees and shun plastic and polythene for the more environmentally-friendly paper bags, a campaign was organised on December 1 at IIT Bhubaneswar.

As a part of the student community of Wissenaire, the institute's annual techno-management fest, students visited different malls in Bhubaneswar and distributed not just saplings, but also paper bags among the visitors. At a time when Cyclone Fani ravaged the capital of the coastal state and caused great havoc to its greenery, this is an attempt by students to promote a greener ecosystem and provide a pollution-free atmosphere.

Joining the green drive was Prof RV Raja Kumar, Director, IIT Bhubaneswar, said, "We at IIT Bhubaneswar are committed to building a sustainable ecosystem and aim to create a good sense of social responsibility towards mother nature and eco-friendliness among the students through such initiatives."

The campaign was also supported by The New Indian Express, Airtel and the city forest division and Bhubaneswar Central MLA Ananta Narayan Jena was also present. BTech students Guguloth Tarun and Harshvardhan Kumar coordinated the event.
