TN on top: Whopping 37 Colleges in Tamil Nadu among India's best colleges in MHRD's NIRF rankings

Establishing Tamil Nadu's dominance in the higher education sector, the MHRD ranked 37 colleges from TN in the top 100 from across India

An astonishing number of colleges from Tamil Nadu have been rated amongst the 100 best colleges across India. Tamil Nadu now has 37 of the top-ranked colleges in the country according to the MHRD's National Institutional Ranking Framework that was released on Monday. Last year too, Tamil Nadu ranked among the top states to have one of the largest concentration of quality educational institutions in the country.

Bishop Heber College, Tiruchy

At the top of the list were Loyola College and WCC that came in second and tenth while Bishop Heber College in Tiruchirapalli came it at number four. The other colleges from the state capital that made the list are Madras Christian College at 12, Ethiraj College for Women (16),  Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed College for Women (47),  Shri Shankarlal Sundarbai Shasun Jain College for Women (59)  Meenakshi College for Women(59) and Srimathi DN Bhat Vaishnav College for Women (62). SRM College, however only found a place at 82 this time around.

Kovai flies high in NIRF 100

Beating Chennai, Coimbatore had almost double the number of colleges on the list, with four ranking in the top 22- P.S.G. College of Arts & Science (11), P.S.G.R. Krishnammal College for Women (14), Kongunadu Arts & Science College (19), Sri Krishna Arts and Science College (22), Dr NGP Arts and Science College (44), Nirmala College for Women (65), Rathinam College of Arts and Science (66), Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts & Science for Women (68), SNR Sons College (69), Hindusthan College of Arts and Science (75).

Loyola College

Besides Bishop Heber College, two other colleges from Tiruchirapalli made the list- Holy Cross College (26) and National College (97). Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College from Virudhnagar came in at 13 while three other colleges from the city also made their way to the list — VV Vanniaperumal College for Women (38), Virudhunagar Hindu Nadars Senthikumara Nadar College (39) and Saiva Bhanu Kshatriya College (56).

Three Namakkal Colleges — Mahendra Arts & Science College (67), K.S.R. College of Arts and Science for Women (76) and Muthayammal College of Arts & Science (86) found mention. Only one college from Madurai, Fatima College was ranked at 27 this year.
