Licypriya Kangujam, one of India's youngest and loudest voices crusading for the environment, has been imploring several political leaders, right from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' to the many Chief Ministers including Andhra Pradesh's CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy in the South to Haryana's CM Manohar Lal Khattar in the North, who tested positive just yesterday, to speak up and get JEE and NEET postponed.
Though the dates for JEE (Mains), to be conducted from September 1 to September 6, and NEET, to be held on September 13, have been confirmed, students are taking to various online mediums to express their demand that the exams need to be postponed. Various political leaders including Congress's Rahul Gandhi and BJP's Dr Subramanian Swamy have also spoken up against it. Even climate activist Greta Thunberg announced her solidarity with the movement via an Instagram post today.
Licypriya Kangujam started lending her support on August 23 with the tweet, "Exam shouldn’t be the last option for students. #SATYAGRAH_
Today, the eight-year-old started tagging various chief ministers and asking them to lend their support to the campaign too. "Dear Hon. Haryana CM @mlkhattar ji, Sir, you even COVID19 positive yesterday despite living in full protection but asking millions students to appear exam in COVID is unacceptable," she tweeted. Similarly, she tweeted to Madhya Pradesh's CM, "Dear @ChouhanShivraj ji Hon’ble CM of Madhya Pradesh, Sir, you even just recover from COVID19 & asking millions of students to appear exam in COVID is fair?"
In another tweet, Licypriya appreciated BJD Odisha's MP Dr Amar Patnaik and AAP's Sanjay Singh for writing letters to the PM to postpone the exam and to the other MPs, she asked, "Where are our 788 MPs of India? Are they sleeping still?"
