Left-leaning student organisations in Jadavpur University — SFI, DSF and We The Independent (WTI) won all the positions in the Arts, Engineering and Science faculties respectively. The elections were held, after a three-year break, on Wednesday and the results were declared on Thursday. The RSS-affiliated ABVP, which contested the JU polls for the first time in its history, failed to win any seats.

The ABVP, however, finished second in the Engineering faculty, where the SFI only managed to bag the third position. The Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP), an affiliate of the state's ruling Trinamool Congress, too did not manage to win any seats.

"All the seats were won by students who belong to the organisations that are anti-BJP and anti-TMC. SFI has been winning the seats in the Arts faculty all these years, that too with a huge lead. This is historic," says Sumannay Raha, an SFI member. "We haven't received a lead of so many votes in a very long time. We had a landslide victory in all these seats," he adds.

The ABVP, on the other hand, had alleged rigging during the polls. "The intellectual mafia which comprises of DSF and SFI rigged the votes. They did not let a lot of students vote according to their wish," says Suman Das, JU ABVP Unit Secretary.

The elections were held for posts of 12 office bearers as also over 600 class representatives. However, the majority of the posts went uncontested. Apart from this, the elections for the Class Representatives were also.
