More than 3,000 students have signed an online petition seeking justice for Siddhant Batra, an IIT aspirant who lost his chance to bag an IIT Bombay seat because he clicked on the wrong link. An 18-year-old student from Agra, Batra had bagged the 270th All India Rank in JEE Advanced.

"Siddhant, an exceptional student who despite all odds cleared one of the toughest exams in the country with a whooping AIR of 270. However, due to some circumstances, he got his seat cancelled, reads the petition started by a certain Sarthak Jain. "Now, this is our duty to provide justice to him by doing all that we can. He is undoubtedly among the best brains in the country and definitely deserves a chance to study in the best institute in the country. JEE is rigorous and it is the dream of almost every child to study in these prominent institutes. Hence, he should definitely get what he deserves," it reads.

Somebody who lost both his parents at a young age, Batra had recently approached the Bombay High Court after he "inadvertently" clicked on a "wrong" link which was meant to withdraw from the process. The court had however dismissed his petition, stating that the IIT had considered his representation and passed its order.

After his story went viral, SRM University Andhra Pradesh had offered him admission with a full scholarship. Students across the country had also been tweeting with #JusticeForSiddhant.
