What happened in Jadavpur University is a pratikriya: ABVP's national chief

Parvathi Benu

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad has denied all the allegations that said that that organisations' members incited violence in the Jadavpur University on Thursday. In a conversation with us, the parishad's national president Dr S Subbaiah said that the incident could have been a 'reaction' to the university students preventing the entry of BJP MP Babul Supriyo.

"We say that every kriya (action) has a pratikriya (reaction). Probably, if someone has prevented the minister's entry, someone else would have reacted. There was an emotional outburst on both sides," he says. "We (ABVP) don't believe in violence. The allegation is completely wrong," he adds. He also says that if anyone is found to be guilty, they'll have to face the law, regardless of their political background. "I have no information saying that ABVP has planned violence. If a worker of ours on an emotional basis has reacted, definitely we'll take action," he says.

He adds that the students do not see a minister as a social worker, but always associates them with a political party. "Do not see a minister as a member of a particular political party. Narendra Modi is the Prime Minister of the country, you can't say that we don't allow politicians and hence Narendra Modi shouldn't come inside. Constitutionally, any minister is not an entity of a political party," he says. "This is the same campus where the students created a ruckus over the screening of Buddha in a Traffic Jam two years back. It is the same thing that has happened here even this time," he adds.

No suicide note was found, say police.
