It seems in the last few decades, this is for the first time the Class-I in government schools are running with full strength. The reason for this is introducing English as a medium in state-run schools. Now, the deputy director of the Department of Public Instructions (DPI) has written a letter to commissioner of DPI seeking permission to allow to take additional admission in these schools.

The state government led by Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy's plan of introducing English as a medium of instruction for Class-I in the government schools seem to be turned fruitful in Vijayapura district as people thronging in good numbers to admit their children even after school authorities said the strength is full. As per the norms of DPI, the school administration (government) is allowed to take only 30 admissions for Class-I. To the surprise of everyone, more than 25 state-run schools where English is introduced as a medium has witnessed full strength. Parents are knocking the doors of the schools every day to take more admissions for Class-I. After the authorities have advertised about introducing English as a medium in state-run schools.

In no time the authorities received more than 1,500 applications for admission in 38 government public schools for the academic year 2019-20. Among the received applications the authorities have given admissions to 864 students, which was the available seats in the district. In the last four days over 450 admissions have been done in these state schools. Earlier, till June 1, these 38 schools witnessed only 387 admissions. The department had kept a target of only 500 admissions but it has now crossed over 850 admissions. As the demand increased, last week, Prasanna Kumar, Deputy Director of DPI has written a letter to the commissioner of DPI seeking permission to take additional admissions for Class-I in state-run English medium schools.

Speaking to TNIE, Prasanna Kumar, Deputy Director of DPI said, -"We never expected that we would receive such an overwhelming response in the first year itself. After many parents approached me seeking admission in state-run English medium schools where already strength is full. I have written a letter to the higher authorities requesting them to take extra admissions as the demand is high. We hope that we will receive a positive response from the higher authorities.-" -"We also received a hint that the authorities have agreed to increase the intake if and only if we have sufficient staff in the respective schools. But we are yet to receive the official statement or order from the commissioner of DPI," stated DDPI.
