Life, livelihood, cash and property. The flood had no bias. It took it all. The people could do nothing, but watch helplessly. More than 100 people lost their lives with the flood causing most havoc in Malappuram and Wayanad.

More than 1.77 lakh victims of the 2019 Kerala Floods are living in hundreds of relief camps across the state. This includes students too, who have lost their books and study materials, just a couple of months since the school reopened. But looks like these little ones do not have to worry, thanks to the Kerala Government's General Education Department. A recent notification from the department says that it will replace the lost books and study materials for the students, free of cost.

"The project will kickstart on Monday," says A Shajahan IAS, Secretary, General Education Department. "We've kept a lot of books ready for immediate distribution. We'll purchase the books that we don't have, at the earliest," he says.

Students of classes I to XII are eligible for this. School principals are instructed by the education department to collect the details of students who lost their books and submit it to the respective education officers at the earliest.
