#DrawForKerala: Donate for Kerala flood victims, take home a piece of art

Parvathi Benu

Would you argue with us if we say that a piece of art makes the world a better and happier place? I doubt! So after nature showered its fury on God's Own Country, a group of young artists from all over India came together to form a group called Draw For Kerala. The artists display their work on Instagram and interested customers can get their favourite artwork, provided they donate to the Chief Minister's relief fund.

If you're an artist and you wish to be a part of this cause, all you have to do is send your best artwork to the group's Instagram handle @drawforkerala . The art will be displayed on their page. Anyone who prefers to buy the original work can DM their favourite art to the page's admin and can buy them by showing them a proof of their donation of a minimum of Rs 500 to the Chief Minister's relief fund.

Smart art: Some of the artwork donated

The initiative is the result of an effort of eight young artists - Sandhya Swaminathan, Anzar Mohammed Shareef, Vivian Nixon, Ajmal Mohammed Shareef, Abhiram, Pranav Sunil, Sreedhar and Ebinnath TK. The Instagram handle that was created on Friday night has already received messages from over 200 artists from all around the country and the admins have managed to send more than Rs 60,000 in 12 hours.

"The response is overwhelming," says Sandhya who is also an admin of the page. "We're not dealing with money at all here. This is just our way of making sure that more people donate towards the cause," she adds. Also, none of the artists have put a price tag on their work. The admins are aiming to target more buyers. Oh wait, we meant donors!
