Here's how these travel lovers from Kerala made a space to embrace nature
One of the founders of Tentgram speaks about how they capture nature in its rawest form through their travel packages and their focus on finding joy in the most organic ways
Super tramps unite! Think of your average flea market. Now add everything a nature and travel enthusiast would crave to enjoy on their vacation. That's exactly what the second edition of Tentgram's event will be about. The programme which will be held on December 7 and 8 in Aranamala, Wayanad aims to strip its participants of the commercial world and offer an experience that is immersed in all things natural.
"We visited the Calicut Flea last year and wished it was more about people more than things, so we decided to set something similar up ourselves," says Jethin Krishna, a co-founder of Tentgram. "This will be organised in one of our properties in Wayanad. There will be everything from music, artists and unique products from handmade leather bags to dream catchers! People can enjoy a good snack and various activities. And when they feel like kicking it back, they can retreat into their tents which sit in the palm of nature."
DELVE IN: The working idea behind the initiative was to co-exist with nature
Tentgram was started by Jethin with his best friends Thaha Paloli and Mohammed Fazil. The three of them began when their juniors in college were dying to go on a holiday. Having done their fair share of travelling the country, they arranged a tour package for their fellow students. It was after this that they realised that it is possible to have arrange a cost-effective and budget friendly vacation if you are able to embrace natural settings and all the resources they have to offer.
Being passionate travellers themselves, they were fascinated by the idea that the biggest luxury in the world was nature, not five star resorts or outdoor swimming pools. The working idea behind the initiative was to co-exist with nature and build a travel community which stands with all things that the earth has to offer and spend quality time with it. In 2017, they built the outdoor recreational centre which involves overnight stays in unexplored places with organic food and exciting activities like trekking, camping in the wild, star gazing, watching the sunset and sunrise right in front of your eyes.
Jethin says, "We thought that tourism had gotten too commercial for its own good. It's put people out of touch with the place and prioritises every other element. Personally, we like to experience everything that a place has to offer when we travel. We encourage stays on forests hilltops and offroad locations where you can really take in all that the world outside." Now, Tentgraam offers premium residences in Wayanad, Munnar, Aleppey and Manali. But most importantly, it offers a space for people who prefer not to be boxed in on their days off.
