Aadhya's mother Priyanka tells us about what went in setting the record in hula hoop spinning
Meet five-year-old Aadhya A, who has recently set a record by spinning the hula hoop 4,000 times in a kneeling position in 34 minutes and 25 seconds. This record has made it to the India Star Book of Records last month. Hailing from Matadakani in Mangalore district, Aadhya was always big on dancing. Her parents Ashwin Kumar and Priyanka Ganiga enrolled her in a dance studio called Ocean Kids. Priyanka says, "While learning dance, she would see other kids practice the hula hoop. That's when she started playing with those hoops. We did not take it seriously. But to our surprise, she had learnt to spin those rings so well. Now, she has mastered the art of spinning continuously not with just one hula hoop but using three."
Hula hooping girl: Aadhya has come under the lime light now and many kids in her school ask her to teach hula hooping
After spotting her talent, her dance teacher and school teachers had suggested that they apply for the India Star Book of Records. On April 6, Aadya performed live at Priyadarshini Montessori House of Children and a video was sent to the committee. "It took two months before the name was entered into the book. We were very happy to receive the coveted certificate and prize on June 6. Now, Aadya can spin the hula hoop 5,000 times," says this mother beaming with pride.
Apart from this, Aadhya has good acting skills and has performed various plays, a telefilm and a film in Tulu called Jabardasth Shankara directed by Devdas Kapikad and a telefilm called Guddu directed by Mahesh Shetty. Recently, she was also awarded the Karnataka Chetana Rajya Award 2019 and Taulava Kumari Award 2019. All the achievements have not dulled her love for the hoop. Aadhya says, "Spinning the hula hoop always fascinated me. It is so much fun and my friends also ask me to teach them. Now, I am learning skating and gymnastics also so that I can use combine them while dancing."
