Students of Jawaharlal Nehru University are organising a protest on November 2 with the clanging of pots and pans to demand that the hostels on campus make mess services available for all the students on campus and to ensure proper protection against COVID-19 and dengue.

The students claim that the Dean of Students is not allowing access to the hostel, “The DoS does not allow access of hostel and mess to returning students except cadres of pro-admin political groups. Students except ABVP cadres are fined for entry into their own hostels. Messes must be started immediately,” the students insisted.

The JNUSU said it will be organising a protest demo at the DoS’s office with pots and pans on November 2 at 2 pm, “Students are requested to bring empty utensils and demand the basic right to mess food which is being denied,” the JNUSU said. They have four demands from the administration - start mess for all students, proper phased entry, protection against COVID-19 and Dengue and open laundries and dhabas.

In a previous statement, three days ago, the students complained about about the circular issued by the University, “The circular brought by the administration on October 21 regarding phased return is the biggest sham and basically kicks the can down the road and compounds the misery of the students. The JNU administration which welcomed ABVP activists with a VIP treatment in contravention of all protocols is now dilly dallying on the genuine difficulties of students. The circular does not address the issue of submitting research scholar, creates a false binary between Science and Humanities/Social Science and is a ploy to suspend entry of students for an indefinite period,” the JNUSU accused.
